MEDICAL RETINAL SPECIALIST
Dr Damien Louis joined our team of specialists in 2005. She is a fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in the medical treatment of diseases of the retina. Dr Louis has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases such as Age Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinal Vein Occlusion.
Dr Louis completed her university degree in South Australia at Flinders University of South Australia and then spent two years working at Kura Yerlo, the Aboriginal Health Centre in Adelaide. After working for 12 months as an ophthalmology registrar at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide and Alice Springs Hospital, Dr Louis completed her ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Royal Adelaide Hospital. In 2001 Dr Louis travelled to Oxford England to complete a fellowship in medical retina under the supervision of Professor Susan Downes.
Dr Louis is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
Dr Louis consults at the Cheltenham Eye Centre every Monday morning, every Thursday afternoon and three Wednesday mornings a month. Dr Louis makes full use of the state of the art medical technology available at Cheltenham Eye Centre including OCT (optical coherence tomography) and scanning laser retinal imaging.
