Dr David van der Straaten is a general ophthalmologist with extensive experience in cataract surgery, as well as pterygium, eyelid and lacrimal surgery. He provides medical and surgical treatment for a wide range of eye conditions.
He completed ophthalmology training in 2006 at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital and post-fellowship training in eyelid reconstruction and tear duct surgery in 2007 at Royal Brisbane and Women’s’ Hospital.
He is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Alfred Hospital, adjunct lecturer within the Department of Surgery, Monash University, and regularly provides education updates to GPs and optometrists. He has been an examiner and remains a surgical supervisor for registrar trainees of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He is engaged in research into cataract surgery refractive outcomes.
